Golden’s Adventure Race

So I had just finished the fantastic adventure race in Glenwood last weekend. By Tuesday I was trying to determine if I was recovered enough to race yet again this weekend – another adventure race! The Glenwood race was absolutely fantastic – probably my most favorite race EVER. And I get addicted to these fun things, so when I heard there was another one only 2 hours away this weekend, I wanted in!

But I needed to make sure I didn’t over-race like last year, where I spent a full 6 months overtrained/overraced and exhausted (from June through December). But looking at the race webpage, I deemed it an acceptable race for me to use as training because of the following:

No more a wannabe – I am an adventure racer!

One of my dreams from years ago was to do an adventure race. I got my first opportunity last year on a 4-person coed team for the National Championships in Moab. Unfortuntely, I was extremely exhausted from overtraining (over-racing), so I really had a hard time but we did finish.

Well this year I thought I’d try out a shorter adventure race (less than 24 hours).  Sept 10 there was an adventure race in Glenwood Springs. So I convinced a friend to join me, and we entered the 2-person coed division.

We got there late Friday night, checked in and got our map and guidebook, and tried to think through what we need to figure out for the morning. We were both pretty tired, so I don’t think we were thinking straight.
